Order-to-Doorstep in Minutes: MagicLab x Taobao Shangou Complete China's First Closed-Loop Robotic Campus Food Delivery

MagicLab's consumer-grade quadruped MagicDog became a "mobile courier" for this deployment, carrying a rear cargo basket to deliver items like bottled water — using LiDAR-based 3D mapping and multi-sensor fusion navigation to adapt to complex, dynamic terrain while independently handling route planning, obstacle avoidance, and precision delivery to a specific person in a crowded environment.


On April 16–17, MagicLab partnered with Taobao Shangou (Taobao's instant-retail platform) to bring a "Robots Deliver Takeout" pop-up activation to Renmin University of China and Beijing Sport University — completing the first full-process robotic food delivery loop in a real Chinese university food-delivery scenario, and becoming, per MagicLab, the first embodied-AI brand in the industry to achieve a closed-loop delivery deployment in a high-frequency campus food-delivery use case. Taobao Shangou provided the live order system and instant-retail infrastructure connecting real student orders to robotic fulfillment — not a simulated order queue.


Students placed orders through a dedicated Taobao Shangou storefront; MagicLab's delivery robots then autonomously handled order pickup, real-time path planning, and building-level delivery, completing "order to doorstep" fulfillment end to end. The deployment runs on MagicLab's core stack: LiDAR-based rapid 3D mapping with one-tap switching between multiple delivery-zone maps, multi-sensor environmental fusion, proprietary terrain-adaptive navigation algorithms, a self-learning motion-control network for stable walking on complex surfaces, and MagicLab's self-developed MagicHand S01 dexterous hand, capable of handling 5–20kg payloads across a wide range of product types.


MagicLab frames the campus environment — high delivery density, high foot traffic, high scenario complexity — as an ideal proving ground for urban instant-delivery automation, and positions this deployment as a replicable, scalable template for robots entering the broader city-wide instant-delivery ecosystem.


Why it matters for instant-retail and delivery platforms: A demo delivery in an empty test lot proves navigation works. A real order placed by a real student, fulfilled by a robot navigating a live, crowded campus to a specific building and floor, proves the full commercial pipeline — ordering, routing, and last-meter delivery — actually closes.
